Instead of focusing on a quick buck, Tristan chose to focus on quality and it has paid off. By using the Internet as his distribution model, Tristan has been able to make a living and avoid the dulldrums of a 9 to 5 job working for someone else.

How to find inspiration as a music producer
In my experience, when I’m inspired I produce my best music. I like to analyze things so that I understand them better. So I started to take notes on what happens when I’m inspired and what things take away my inspiration. Here is my list of things that inspire me as a producer and also some things that take it away.
Don’t do it all good, Do one thing great
When I speak to music producers and beat makers about what type of tracks they produce I always hear a response like this “I make everything East Coast, West Coast, Dirty South. I can do it all.” All this tells me is that you are not great at anything maybe good at best.
No one wants to hear that you do it all. The reason why is because most artist don’t do it all. They have one style of music that they stick to and they want to work with music producers that do the same. It’s fine to be versatile, but as a producer it will not pay to be a jack of all trades. How many great music producers are famous for making all types of beats. Find your style and be the best at it and artist will come knocking on your door.
The evolution of Kanye West and what you can learn from it
Mix the cross over appeal of Jay-Z with the consciousness of Mos def and sprinkle a little bit of the awkwardness of Andre 3000 and then add the self marketing ability of 2Pac. These are all some of the traits that Kanye West possesses as an artist. Lets take a look at his evolution.

Sell your beats like drug dealers sell drugs

Drug dealers have discovered that if they offer a little bit of their product for free chances are you will come back later and pay for more. Why not take this same approach with your music. Give some of your best beats away for free on your website or social networking sites. Just remember to make sure you tag them so that you get credit. Don’t worry about someone getting famous and making a lot of money and not giving you you’re royalties. Chances are the people that use you’re beats will never make it that far.
Look at it this way, car dealerships have been doing this for years with test drives. How often do you hear about cars getting stolen on test drives?
Why you shouldn’t buy protools

Yeah I said it. I purchased protools over 5 years ago. I purchased it because every one I knew at the time claimed it was the best thing since sliced bread. So I went out and purchased the Digi02 Rack for $2,000. Yeah I made better music after I bought it, but it wasn’t because of protools it was because I got better. One thing you don’t hear a lot when your starting off is, THE EQUIPMENT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU SUCK, PERIOD.
My recommendation is avoid purchasing expensive equipment until you know that your good at making music and you understand the basics. Use what you have or can find for free upfront until you feel you have outgrown it. Chances are once you get to the point where you really need all of the bloated features that protools offers you will be going to a studio that all ready has it. Stay light, keep your expenses low and focus on getting better.
Using FL Studio remakes to promote yourself
If you are looking for a way to market yourself as a music producer try remakes. A remake is when you take a popular song and try your best to reproduce it. Making remakes can be an excellent way to learn techniques of popular music producers. Remakes can also help you create an audience and build your online reputation.
This video is a perfect example of how a music producer has used a remake to get his name out there. Thanks to 1Luke14whm you can learn how to remake Young Money’s Bedrock. Also, if you are new to Fl Studio this video demonstrates the proper way to use it. Remember your remake does not have to be perfect just get it out there.
